Bless Our Cops La Union: CORPS meets CORPS

San Fernando City, La Union- It was bound to happen. Call it serendipity or providence if you will, but if two organizations who has the same vision: reaching the uniformed service to Christ, who has the same desire for the lost, who has the same concept of reform and who have even the same name should ever meet , we could only say- it was bound to happen.

So, the Christian Officers Reform the Police Service (CORPS) indeed met with the Council of Reformed Public  Servants (CORPS) with two like minded goal: how to better reach the PNP for Christ and how to translate this ministry into something more sustained and extensive that it could touch base with the community.

Led by PSUPT Pedro Ubaldo Sr.  and Rev. Aurelio Nitura, the Council of Reformed Public Servants  Christian Fellowship have been busy in ministering to the PNP in La Union for almost 7 years. They also have been organizing police in RPO1 to conduct Bible studies in their own units and have also reached the police station of La Union. The Christian Officers Reform the Police Service on the other hand was going to provinces and regions to find partners who would help in reaching out to the police. PSSUPT Antonio P. Mendoza Jr., one of the founding members of the CORPS Movement, who was an ally and supporter of both groups introduced each other when he heard that CORPS Movement are looking for partners.

Last June 17 the meet was set with PSUPT Bernie Banac, Ptr. Jim de los Santos, Ptr. Dan Afuang of the Jesus Offers Salvation Hope and Unity in the Armed Services (JOSHUA) ministry of the Greenhills Christian Fellowship (GCF) and Boi Manuel driving up to La Union to meet with Rev. Nitura and PSUPT Obaldo. After a diner meeting where the two organizations talked of how to better improve their ministy’s, both decided to hold a Bless Our Cops 4 (see related article) vision casting to other pastors and churches involved with the Council the following day.

The following day the Rev Nitura and PSUPT was joined by the following churches and volunteers: Ptr. William Nieveras of the Word of Life, Ptr. Manuel Valdez of the Blessed Sanctuary Christian Center, Ptr. Alexander Abriam of the Jesus My Healer Fellowship, Ptr. Gerardo Nojor and Ptr. Gary Ariz of the Jesus Is Lord Fellowship, Ptr. Alvin Ang and Bro. Bernard Lungen of the Christ Commissioned Fellowship, Ptr Benjamin Galuan Jr.,  Bro. Joseph Galuan and Sis Aiza Martinez of Followers of Jesus.

PSUPT Banac first presented to the pastor volunteers of the Council on the need to minister to the Philippine National Police. He also presented the Integrated Transformation Program of the PNP to the group and elaborated how the local church could help to fortify the spiritual and moral component of the program. He then challenged the churches and pastors to transform the nation by transforming the PNP.

Bro. Boi Manuel presented the BOC 4 concept to the pastors stating that the police ministry is a perfect ministry vehicle “bus” to further strengthen the church, reach out to the community and ultimately assist in nation building.

PSUPT Mendoza also presented the need of evangelizing the PNP and even challenged all pastors to disciple at least one officer within the month.  Ptr. Jim and Ptr. Dan also shared their personal experience on how to minister to the Police and presented how God is moving in the police force in their own provinces.

An open forum proceeded where Rev. Nitura was excited enthusiastic about the BOC4 program. He was encouraging their volunteers to take part in the program and have a unity in reaching out to the PNP. PSUPT Obaldo then thanked the CORPS  and encouraged the pastors and volunteers of the Council to always pray for the police and always seek for opportunity to lead any policemen to the Lord.

PSSUPT Mendoza summed it so eloquently by saying that  BOC 4 should be renamed as BOC 5 because those who are ministering to the police is not only Blessing Our Cops,  Our Church, Our Community and Our Country but ultimately Blessing Our Christ.
